Hello, I am pre-med student applying Medical School in the June. (NY Resident, Asian)
I received 30 in MCAT, and I have 3.9 cGPA and 3.89 sGPA. I cannot improve my MCAT score this year, so I am just applying as it is. My major is Biology (Neuroscience) and minor in Music in Classical guitar
My EC:
- Shadowed pediatrician ~50 hours
- Research in Neuroscience dept for 3 years
- Research summer program award winner
- President & Vice president in two different student clubs
- Mental Wellness Internship 1 year
- Hospital Volunteer in Radiology Dept ~200 hours
- Nursing Home Therapy Dept Volunteer ~100 hours
- Teacher Assistant (Biology and General Chemistry one semester each)
- Hosted Classical Guitar Concert (possibly can bring up in the interview when talking about my hobby)
- Community Service in Church as praise team member (since high school)
- Poster Presentations for Symposium and in New Admitted Students Day

Here is my list of Medical Schools that I am applying:
1. Albany Medical College
2. Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine
3. Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University
4. Hofstra North Shore- LIJ School of Medicine
5. Loma Linda University School of Medicine (I know, Christian School. But I can appeal since my dad is a pastor and I have many EC related to religious activities)
6. New York Medical College
7. Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine
8. SUNY Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine
9. SUNY Upstate Medical University
10. Stony Brook University School of Medicine
11. USF Health Morsani College of Medicine
12. University at Buffalo SUNY School of Medicine
13. University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine
14. University of Rochester School of Medicine
15. Wake Forest School of Medicine of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center
16. Touro COM-NY
17. NYCOM
18. Another MD School???
19. Another DO School!
20. Caribbean???

As indicated by Bold, I am wondering where to apply for another DO and MD school which I have good shot as a NY resident. Also, should I try Caribbean? just in case... You might say I will have LOW chance in OOS Public Schools, and I am wondering if I appeal through secondary based on each school's mission statement, I would be able to have a shot. My low MCAT can be covered by higher than average GPA, I believe.

So, How do you guys think about the list??? Too many or few? Modifications? Thank you!!! I need reply ASAP :'(

My suggested list below. You can do much better than Carib diploma mills. For MD schools, a high GPA will not make up for a low MCAT.

Thank you for idea. It appears that, as a OOS applicant, I won't have a shot? Because I looked at MSAR, and they apparently accepted many OOS applicants, which I considered as hopeful. But I will highly consider your list. Thanks!

For which school? USF? You might have a shot, but public schools do favor the home team, so one should be > avg for them.

Consider Rowan SOM in NJ also for DO. I'd say Rowan, PCOM, NYCOM and Touro NY for 4 good Tri state DO schools.

Yeah I figured. I decided to add MCW. Thanks!

Okay. Thank you! I was wondering which DO schools would have good shot for me. I really do not mind getting into DO school. I will rather be grateful, haha. I should apply all 4 then!

If you apply to USF, apply to the Select program (if you decide you like the program - info is on the school website) - there were plenty of OOS students at second look this year.
