In IM and few other specialities the MD Productivity is measured by the Average Length of Stay of Patients.

Case numbers and turnover time are two factors that will determine your productivity. Doing few cases and taking forever to go from one case to the next will not earn you much money or brownie points with your group mates.

Of course, one should balance speed with patient comfort and safety, right? And therein lies the art of being a truly great anesthesiologist over being just an average one, or worse, a dangerous one.
