I was looking through Interview Invite thread and realized that some people applied to top 10 schools in like October or November and are still invited for interview... which makes me feel bad coz I applied in late September last year and received no love..

lol I had a friend that applied in like December and got into a top 10 schools.

Other things are important too. They must recognize they are going to get applications up to the last minute and save space for stellar applicants that choose to apply late.

I am kind of surprised you are so surprised by this.

each school is unqiue. some schools may value numbers more than others .... the pattern that I've seen is that the successful late appliers have VERY good numbers, eg. GPA >3.8 and MCAT >~35.

For really great applicants, the timetable is more flexible. If you discover the cure for HIV, it doesn't really matter when you apply. Being early in the cycle helps you against people that are competitive with you, but it's not really going to help all that much against an applicant that is categorically stronger... at least until the school runs out of interview spots.

goes to show that the process isn't as "random" as some people on here like to believe. a good candidate will get in no matter when he/she applies...because there are things that are way more important than when you apply.

I agree that things are probably less random than a lot of applicatns want to believe, but when you apply is really important. I think for very exceptional candidates, not just good, timing doesn't matter too much. However, even the exceptional student will get into less schools if they apply late.
