How is the triangle method used?

Hi guys and gals,
several of you have mentioned that you have used the triangle method for determining the angle size. Can some one please describe this approach. Those angles sound tough and any help would be great. Some of you have also mentioned using the paper ruler method. What is this and is is permitted? Thanks

I wouldn't depend on the paper ruler technique since some testing centers may not let you touch the monitor.
