I have been told that some schools overlook the +/- on students' transcripts.😕 An A is not the same as an A- and a B is not the same as a B+. This basically means there is no difference between the person who got an A- and the other who got an A/A+??? I beg to differ........ This makes NO sense to me, at ALL. Is this true ?????

It would probably be better if you called the schools and asked them.

For the schools I interviewed at, when they sat down to review the academic portion, my GPA was the same as on my college transcripts (my school is on the +/- system). I do not know about other schools. Although I wouldn't have a problem with them if they did because it really isn't fair for those of us who are on the +/- sx to get an A- for a 93 when someone who goes to another school without this system gets an A. To make an A, you have to get a 94 or higher at my institution, which is very challenging in tough courses. There is also no A+. So, I don't think it's really a crime if they want to standardize all of the little idiosyncrasies that differ between schools. You could make an A+ in a class, and I make an A, but you don't know that the grades are actually different because our grading systems are different.

Most schools go by the calculated GPA that is produced by OPTOMCAS, and they use the +/- in their calculations

From my experience, when uploading my grades to optomcas, I noticed they scaled down A+ to an A. All the other grades remained the same, ex b+ stayed b+. That's not true scaling! All optomcas did was ignore the a+..

That's the issue coming from universities that use a 4.3 gpa scale compared to the 4.0 scale. I agree it's a huge disadvantage.

that's because some schools give a 4.2 (roughly) for someone that gets an A+. That's probably the reason for the scaling down. Other then that, I've never heard of any opto schools playing this this. They mainly just look at the GPA and science GPA.

OD schools don't do that because you have to standardize everyone's GPA. It's not fair to compare a student from a school that doesn't give out A+ to a student from a school that does. So logically the only thing you could do is scale down the A+. It's a matter of standardization, not a punishment. Even though you were given a 4.0 instead of a 4.3 for an A+, it doesn't matter because 4.0 is still the maximum points you can have.

So don't worry, your hard work will still shine through.

Ok cool. I was not too worried about my A+ mark as it is recorded as a 4.0 on my transcripts, I was mainly worried about the B+ issue which a 3.3 not a 3.0. Thanks for clarifying that
