How late can I withdraw from the match?

I am considering doing a research year next year, and would have to withdraw from the match in order to do that. How late can I withdraw without causing big problems for residencies?

Basically, I'm applying to HHMI-type programs and want to do a year of research between MS4 and residency. I would keep my student status at my current med school, and reapply through the match next year to the same specialty.

As of now I want to stay in the match while I apply to research programs because regardless of what happens I want to do residency in the same specialty and matching this year would be a fine back up plan. However, I don't want to cause problems for programs I will be applying to the next year. Anyone have a ballpark date of when withdrawing would be appropriate?
