How late is submitting secondaries by mid-September?

How late is submitting secondaries to highly competitive schools (say top 20) by mid-September given that one has decent stats?

People are already interviewing and it might take you weeks before your application is even screened for interview, but not ridiculously late.

I hate all this talk about September being late. yeah whatever its not in June 1 like 95% of people here, but I know plenty of people who get in with submissions at this point. Applying early won't save you from a "on-hold for re-review". I'm applying with some very very mediocre stats, and was just verified but giving it a shot.

I don't think it's a good idea to apply this late to the top 20 schools (if you're referring to Mount Sinai and Harvard and the like). Those schools are of course extremely competitive and it's a little too late in the cycle for them unless you have amazing stats. However your in-state school and some of the lower tier schools are still fair game. But even for those, it's pushing it and you should definitely not wait to be completed until October. Definitely submit everything this month.

The interview season is from September to March or so.

Agreed! Schools will still look through plenty of apps submitted in September and October seeing as how they are doing interviews well into the Spring. Don't stress just because you are not as early as everyone on SDN. If it gets to be October and you haven't completed your apps, you still need to wait for schools to process and review them, so I would say that's when you should feel like you are falling behind.

I was not complete at the school that I am attending until late October or so.

It bothers me a lot when I submitted secondaries in mid-August but received "complete" emails a month later 🙁
