How likely are you to get in-state residency and tuition for NR after the first year?

I saw that WSU, Missouri, and NC State all allow nonresidents to apply for residency and in state tuitions after the first year. Does anyone have experience with these schools and how often they allow this or whether they reject anyone?

I am not a vet student (yet, hopefully) but I am a NC resident. We have a whole Residency Determination Service that handles residency for tuition purposes. It’s not very difficult to complete, but I know most questions have the “at least one year” qualifier. I would start on NCSU’s website and then check out the determination service for more info. I also agree with Lupin, it will be more beneficial to go into the school specific threads where actual students are willing to answer questions. NCSU has their own SDN account so they could probably answer directly.

I think in the recent years they’ve changed the process some so I’m not sure if it’s harder to get residency now or not. I think it’s the state determining it instead of the school itself or something??

WSU is currently fairly easy to switch if you do everything accordingly! Residency is determined by the main university and not the vet school. Theres a very straight forward guide if you look at WSU residency independent student. I've known of like 2 people to get rejected. One I know didnt have everything she needed idk about the other but over all it seems mostly everyone who applies gets it. Like >90% but rules may change from year to year so if you got accepted I would reach out to the residency lady asap.

Mizzou I did quite a bit of research as I had been given an offer there as well. My friend got switched but the hoops to jump through are more strict than WSU as of 2 years ago. Mizzou I know you had to make a bank transaction like every week or something during the summer to prove you didnt leave while WA state actually lifted the restriction on summer travel. Do your research and get in contact with the schools for sure!

Yes, that’s what the Residency Determination Service is. Basically, you answer all their questions and get a number that your school (re: NC State) receives and indicates a status of IS or OOS. For me, I did my RDS in undergrad so I didn’t have to do anything when I applied this cycle.

I know, but in the past few years the process has changed. It used to be anyone who applied got it and I don’t know if I’ve heard if that’s still true with the new way they do it for the vet school.
