How long is the typical d-school interview in its entirety? I know the 1-on-1/committee interview is typically 15-30 mins, but what about everything else? I'm trying to figure out my flight schedule and when I should fly back home. Thanks

Mine have run from 20 min to 40 min. Plan to stay an hour longer than the school's predicted time because your interview can run very late if the people before you have long interviews as well.

Mine were all planned to be either 20-30 minutes. 90% of mine stayed within this timeframe, I had one with a terribly impersonal guy that was maybe 15mins, and one that ran over to 40...but typically 30 mins in my experience

If there's a lot of small talk, >30 mins.
Just straight up questions, then 30 mins.
Let's just say 30 mins.

The interview themselves or the interview day? I was at LSU from 8 in the morning until almost 3. The interviews I had during that day were an hour long and then 15 min for the second one.

do you still remember the UNC faculty's names? I was wondering if you can PM me.

So far mine have all been 45-75 minutes...they aren't always so short. All of mine have been 5-7 hours total.

thanks for the replies. i live in houston and my interview is in california. there are hardly any flights after 4pm AND its on a saturday. the one flight that is at 4:30 pm or any flights on sunday almost double in price.

Interview times vary significantly from school to school. At Michigan, for instance, the interview process takes nearly two hours because of their multiple-mini interview (MMI) format, which consisted of ten, ten minute interviews.

Other schools, such as my interview at Iowa, have one interview that will last between 20 minutes and 40 minutes.

Some may have multiple interviews, each lasting 20-40 minutes (such as Oklahoma).

Typically, interviews will consist of a very small portion of the day. You will usually be given presentations throughout the day on the curriculum, financial aid, research, extra-curricular activities, etc. Lunch will be somewhere in the middle of all of this.

I have actually enjoyed my interviews thus far. The staff are usually very welcoming, and I have gotten along well with the other people who are interviewing.

Good luck on your interview process!
