I've heard you try to do this section as quickly as possible, like 5 mins, but it's taking me 10.

Just wanted to see how long you guys were taking on it...

Dude like 30 secs on each question, hella quick and hella easy. But the real version I heard has like Origami which is causing me to **** bricks over here

Yea with this section practice only makes perfect. It is very easy with the grid method and correlate that with the lines of symmetry you can solve any problem w/ quickness. With the origami I think it will be tricky because the lines of symmetry would not always be true which can cause discrepancy.

Wait what's origami? Is there an example?

I usually spent 6~7 minutes on CDP, but on real DAT it only took me about 4 mins.

Basically, in my opinion, Real PAT was a lot easier than CDP.

I actually finished up the whole PAT section in 30 minutes,

and I spent another 30 minutes to make sure I did not make any silly mistakes

Just so you know... this guy is an exception.

Study your butt off OP!

spend as much time(reasonably) to get all of them correct.

Hole punching, cube counting are two areas you should get 100% on as there really no requirement to manipulate the figure in your head like other sections. The grid method will eliminate most answer choices for you with just a few marks. one or two will require a bit more. The adjustment you have to make is going from CDP to the test is that occasionally you will not get nice neat hole punches on every question. the quality of hte images varies. you will get one question where the holes are big, followed by ones that are small.

for "origami" type folds. the best example I remember seeing was from the extra 2500 that CDP has its part of that deluxe or ultimate package whatever they call it.

I know for sure 2 of my more "difficult" hole punching was identically to ones I saw in extra practice problems.

The more I read YoonS posts the more I believe he got an easy version of the test....I have never heard of anyone going actually faster on the folding section of the PAT on the real DAT and WTF real PAT was a lot easier than CDP, hell no, I have taken the real DAT and this is not a true statement.

Don't listen to Yoon. He gives horrible advice. Most of his advice is just showboating his own talents, and contributes nothing to the needs of the OP.

haha...called OUT!

but i'm very impressed if he pulled a 30 PAT in 30 minutes...in all seriousness. that's a whole 'nother level beyond people who are already great at PAT type problems.

On my test the hole punching was easy.. Not as hard as CDP. Had maybe 1-2 hard folds but if you do CDP then you should be okay. I thought patten folding had messed up folds. It was definitely harder than CDP.

Did you ever read my post?

I always tell people, I did 20~30 questions on cube counting, angle ranking, and hole punching before I start studying.

Since I studied for about 2 months, that means I did 1200~1800 questions on each section.

All I wanted to say was practice is the key. If you practice a lot, there is nothing that you can't solve on the real DAT.

Seriously, on real DAT, there are not many angle ranking problems that are only differ by few degees.

Most of them are differ by more than 4 degrees. If you set your angle difference by 2, 4 becomes piece of cake.

Also, losing points on cube counting and hole punching is a waste. And this part is easy to make a mistake.

So all I was saying is try to double check those part if you have spare time.

Lastly, practice practice all i wanted to say was practice, did you guys ever see my breakdown? I was averaging 20-25 on CDP.

I was never able to pull 30 on the CDP. But, because of practice, I was able to spend very short amount of time on

angle ranking, cube counting, and hole punching, so I was able to concentrate and spend more time on the other sections (TFE, Keyhole, Patternfolding).

There you go, insightful post ! 👍

A lot better than your first one.

Yea dude you are not the only one who could afford that version of CDP. All it is is bunch more practice and yeah its more practice but you can ask anyone that you could get that same practice by doing the 10 practice tests of CDP 3 times over. This is BS advice and just stop showboating already. Be thankful for your score and move on. Give advice to people while not showing off that is a sign of a genuine person. Not what you are doing.

Hole punching should still be quick, but yes, it is much harder on the real DAT than it is on Topscore. At least mine was. Oragami folds is a bit of an extreme description, but there are a lot of weird triangle type folds that I had never seen before. But honestly, it is as people have mentioned, a section that you shouldn't miss any on. I'm not saying that is what will happen, as I know I missed a few, but it is possible to reason out hole punching much more easily than it is TFE or key holes. I'd say even on the real DAT I was averaging one per 30 seconds, maybe quicker. On topscore, I could probably average closer to 20 seconds per.

But really, it isn't mandatory to use this section to build time. If you feel more comfortable with TFE or keyholes, do those quickly. I do highly suggest you have a couple of sections on the PAT you are very comfortable with so you can build up a time buffer. Seems for most people (me included) those sections are Hole Punching, Angles, and cubes. Though, angles mainly because there is no point staring at a question for long anyway.

I think you can change the time limits around to suit you better, don't absolutely have to follow everyone else's.
I spend a little more time on hole punching than people suggest, it's not that it's hard, but just takes more time than 5 min for me. However cube counting/ Keyholes usually take less than the suggested time limit even with double checking.
