I'm going to be a MS1 this year and was wondering how long a typical gross anatomy final exam is supposed to take. I booked a flight a month ago to go home for Christmas, not thinking that December 16th (Friday) would be the anatomy finals. Our school's online web schedule says from 1 to 5 pm but I don't think it would take that long... but then again there are 150 students so you never know. (I have to be at the airport by 7 pm)I just want to make sure that I will be able to catch my flight after the anatomy exam since I have to drive home in traffic, change, shower, and pack(things I wouldn't be able to do while preparing for the exam). I am considering changing the dates if I have to. Any input would be appreciated, thanks !

Theres always the chance they will break you up into groups and have different groups go at different times.

Every school is different, but if they say the final is from 1 to 5, then I would definately assume that your butt is going to be in a chair until 5PM, if not a little later even. From my gross anatomy final (as for every exam in gross), it was broken up into 2 parts, the written and the practical. The written started at 8:30 and went to 11:30. Then the practicals started at 12:30. The class was broken in half, so A-L would take the practical form 12:30 to 2, and M-Z would take it from 2-3:30. It would really depend on whether you take your written or practical first. Practicals are always on a rigid schedule (You get X minutes per question, then you move on). Written exams are more dependent on how fast you work through the test. If they say you'll be done by 5, then presume that you'll be walking out of the building at 5. Least of all though, don't ever presume you'll ever get out of the exam early.

...or you could just be motivated and actually take a shower and put on presentable clothes before the final (it disturbs me how so many people come to tests without taking care of personal hygiene -- and in PJs!), and pack the day or night before. Exam time can get crazy but you can't doing human things like packing and showering etc. Life can get crazy; you just do what you have to do to get things done. Then you sleep on the plane 🙂

Yeah, that's probably what I am going to have to do since my school is so close to the airport anyway. Thanks everyone for your advice !

Just out of curiousity are you at USF COM next year or UMiami COM???

I'm just curious based on your location and screenname. I go to USF for undergrad and have a lot of friends who'll be med students at USF COM next year, and also a few who will be at UMiami SOM.

I'm going to UMiami. Our orientation starts next Thursday.
