How long.. personal statment???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
whatever you need to get your point across eloquently. Most seem to average 4500-5000, some people say 4000 characters is cutting it short, some have it literally at 5300. Its just really how much you need to get your point across. Any more is just unnecessary filler that gives more work to adcoms to weed through, and too little won't capture you accurately.

I needed every character... had to cut a little to get it in there. 5300 characters in my opinion isn't that long, but if you can get it done in 4000 I think it's ok.

I wouldn't recommend going any shorter than that. At least to me that would indicate laziness unless it was a really stellar applicant.

Hey future Doctors,
How many characters should the personal statement should have? Thank you in advance
hahaha here are two easy solutions:

1) search for any personal statement thread in the past 3 months. the link is below and to the left of "Welcome Greenlady05." learn to use it before you ever post a new thread.
2) and you could start an AMCAS or TMDSAS application and figure it out yourself.

and personally, mine was under 4300 characters. and before you ask, to separate paragraphs hit return twice so you skip a line. don't indent or try anything fancy because it'll either be worthless or cost your more characters than a skipped line.
