Hey guys,

I am a new member and I must add that this is by far the most informative website I've seen especially for med students.

I am applying to medical school in a year and I had a question regarding the length of my resume? Is it encouraged that my resume be limited to one page? Or can my resume me up to 5 pages? I heard that adcoms usually skim though resumes (due to the huge quantity of applicants), which makes it counterproductive on sending a long resume.

Your thoughts and experiences will be highly appreciated!

You have a five page resume?

How old are you?

lol no, it was just a hypothetical question. Basically I wanted to know whether I can send a resume of more than 1 page.

You don't send a resume. There's a common application at www.amcas.org. You enter up to 15 activities and up to a 1400 character (I think) description per activity. If you're out of school, you get an additional 15.

Can I use html on my resume? Thanks! Also, is it possible to send my app by mail, or does it HAVE to be online?

No, no html. Everything is in a text box. You're essentially going to transplant your resume into AMCAS and elaborate on it.

If you're still in undergrad, there should be no need to submit a CV or resume, because the information you send to AMCAS will capture all of it. Some non-traditional applicants (those who have been out of school for a while) might send one, though. I'm not sure how well schools will receive them.

Thanks! Does that mean I have to describe my information in paragraphs, or can I bullet them using asteriks?

That's up to you, but I think most people do paragraphs. When I say transplant, I don't mean copy and paste. You're not applying for a job, you're trying to enter a profession, and the route is a little more tortuous and involved.

Oh, okay. I was gonna say, that's a little scary for an ug kid. 😀

Primary has to be online. Secondaries might be online or on paper... depends on the school. Same with LORs. And the AMCAS isn't really a resume... it's a summary of activities, with courses, GPAs, and personal information. Far and above what you would put on a resume.
