I was just wondering how many EC's or volunteer experiences people have on their application. I only have about 3, but they were quality, time consuming experiences. It just looks kind of wimpy on my app!
😕

I don't think you should look at the number of EC's as being the factor that makes you look good. I believe that quality over quantity is what the admissions committee is looking for. My EC's are this: I have worked as an EMT in an ER for three years, mainly as a full time job. I volunteered for the disaster services team of the Red Cross, something I did for one week a month for three years. I also volunteer coached junior soccer for three years. Thats it. I only have three, but I have put a lot of time into each of them. As long as you have shown dedication to the activities, I don't think a small number is going to harm you at all. I think too many people spread themselves too thin trying to get tons of ECs. You have the right idea. By the way...I got into CCOM, COMP, LECOM, so they must have liked my EC's enough to accept me. Good luck

It's not quantity it's quality. I just graduated from NYCOM, and believe me the # does'nt matter. On interviewa, whether it is for med school or residency, the interviewers are looking for commitment and the amount of time you spent in the EC. Also, when they ask about it they are looking for intangibles.. WHat I mean is your enthusiasm about the EC. On an interview for residency I spent the whole interview talking about the childrens basketball team i coach. Remember, anyone can lie on an application, so they r trying to weed these people out.
Good luck......MIKE
