I've looked everywhere but I have not found a clear answer anywhere.

How many total exams do we need to take to become licensed dentist.

Obviously I'm not talking about DS exams, I mean like NBDE or WREB.

So for a dentist to graduate and practice in Arizona for example am I understanding that I need to pass a NBDE part 1, NBDE part 2, and WREB? Is there a state exam?

Thanks in advance.

In general it will be 3: NBDE part 1, NBDE part 2, and a regional licensing exam. This last one is specific to the area where you want to be licensed and include tests like the WREB, NERB, or specific state tests (like still available in CA even though CA will accept the WREB).

To specifically answer your question in regards to Arizona:

"Who can apply for licensure in Arizona?

Dentists and Dental Hygienists who have graduated from an ADA accredited school of dentistry or dental hygiene, successfully passed the National Dental or Dental Hygiene Board examination (part 1 and 2) and the Western Regional Examining Board examination within the last five years may apply for Licensure by Examination.

Dentists and Dental Hygienists who have graduated from an ADA accredited school of dentistry or dental hygiene, successfully passed the National Dental or Dental Hygiene Board examination and a Board approved clinical examination of another state or region may apply for Licensure by Credential"

Part 1, Part 2, regional, and ethic/law exam specific to the state.
