How many O Chem reactions do we need to know?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
someone correct me if i am wrong...

its not about how many reactions or how many mechanisms you know. just realize the basic patters...
do not go crazy memorizing all sorts of reactions. but concentrate on imp. ones. If you have a kaplan book they are in there ~100 reactions in the kaplan book alone.

Hey guys.
Can anyone suggest a good site to find information and learn more about organic chemistry?

Thanks.

That is correct, if you know mechanisms and understand electron flow, you won't have to memorize many reactions, just memorize exceptions.
Of course that is a lot harder done than said. I would recommend Destroyer on this.
Good luck

OCHEM.com...I used it as an undergrad to review some stuff I wasn't quite understanding...there are some narrated animated tutorials, flashcards, old exams, and practice questions.
It's run by an associate professor from Claremont.
It's a pretty decent resource...but should only be used as a supplement! 😀

Ah yes,

I've just studied for the past two months, gen chem, and o-chem. I can tell you that when I started from ground zero, I was freakin' out. I went through Kaplan for gen chem. Somwhere during that time period I came on to CHAD'S VIDEOS. START HERE! Very helpful. I took notes, and reviewed them constantly. When I finished GC, I went straight to his OC videos. These videos are about an hour to an hour and half a piece. Don't allow yourself to rush through them. Take the time to take good notes, or come back to it the next day after a good night's rest. Yay, videos are done! But that wasn't enough for me. I got the O Chem Odyessy ( part of the destroyer package.) Some say it's overkill, Chad says get your hands on every practice problem available, I say it's worth the time. I learned new things, and it helped me to bridge the gaps between the stuff I wasn't sure about. Just finished it yesterday, and I've started on BIO. Also, I made flash cards for the stuff I'm not 100% on, and review them at my liesure to solidify the concepts. ORGO ROAD MAPS ARE GREAT!!!!! So in the end, I feel very confident with my abilities. Last practice test I took, I got a 20 (made some stupid mistakes.) I do plan on getting higher, but, I'm a little burnt out on chem for now, so I switched topics, and will definately come back to it later. Hope that helps...

Havent watched the videos. Looks kinda disorganized unlike the g chem ones. I think 'll skip the lady ones and just look at chado's. Done the Destroyer twice. I can do the roadmaps. Just not sure if thats enuff.

albuterol lies. as soon as he was able to write, he began scribbling organic chem reactions. he didn't need to use the destroyer road maps

I guess I am still a little lost when it comes to following the pattern in the DAT Destroyer on Organic Chemistry reactions roadmaps. Can someone help me with this. It does not look organized to me.
