How many passes do most of you get through for your exams in your pre-clinical years? Roughly, how many lectures are on your exams? Lastly, how long does your each pass usually take for you and how much do you think you retain first pass? Our exams cover anywhere from 10-15 lectures. Usually takes me 1-1.5 hr to get through a lecture and that is watching it for the first time at 2x speed and annotating. Retention 1st pass is anywhere between 5-20%. I aim to get through 3 but realistically get through everything 2x.

As many passes as necessary to get the material cemented in your mind. After pass 2, spend time literally quizzing yourself on each slide mentally. You'll retain a lot more doing this especially as you make future passes. Many of my med school exams easily had 30+ lectures. I noticed that 4-5 passes with quizzing a lot of the time with a partner did the trick for me.

That's a great idea actually. So how long does it usually take you to get through 1 lecture? If you have 30+ lectures that is easily 30 hours in just first pass.
