How many ppm is 1%?

Looks right to me.

One percent is one "part per hundred." There are 10,000 100s in 1,000,000. 10,000 x 1 = 10,000 ppm.

or another way to visualize it. elementary school style!

0.01 = 1%

0.010000
tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, million

so that's 10000 or 10^4. it's like counting on your fingers but for college students lol

The math makes sense to me, I just don't understand the logic or how you get to the math..

1 ppm = 1*10^-6 right? And 1% = 1*10^-2.

How do you get from there to (10^6) * (10^-2)??

How many twos go into eight? 8/2=4.
How many As go into B? B/A
How many ppm (10^-6) go into % (10^-2)? 10^-2/10^-6 = 10^4

it's like asking how many millionths go in 0.01 = one hundredth

Hmm, let me try and write this out a really long way since my brain is very saturated with MCAT at this point.

How many 100s can fit into a 10. 0.1 because 10/100 = 0.1
How many 1000s can fit into a 10. 0.01 because 10/1000=0.01
How many 10000s can fit into a 10. 0.001 because 10/10000=0.001

How many 0.000001s fit into a 0.01 = 10^4 because (10^-2)/(10^-6) = 10^4.

Ok cool. Since 1/(10^-6) is the same thing as 1/(1/10^6), it is the same thing as (10^6)/1, thus (10^6)*(10^-2) is the same thing as (10^-2)/(10^-6)

Thanks everyone 🙂
