How many pre-meds have a dilemma where they started out doing terribly but managed to pull their GPA up, for example, averaging an F in their first two semesters, then averaging a 4.0 for the rest of their academic life, with a 4.0 science GPA, I want to know, to see if it's factored into the average GPA MD's have when they get accepted. If there's a large number of people with situations like this, then, then it's safe to assume that the fact that it was an isolated incident does not mean much.

From the looks of this board, I'd say it's pretty common. If you (is this your situation, or just a hypothetical?) can explain why you did poorly during your first year, I imagine ADCOMs would be impressed by the incredible 180.

I started out with 3 F's from ten years ago, and got almost a straight 4.0 (one A-) since then to get my gpa up to a 3.6c/3.8s.
