Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knew of specific programs that either do not send out rejections or who send them out really late. Thanks for the help. Not hearing ANYTHING sucks.😕

most programs don't send rejections. although, on the other hand, if you didn't receive a rejection yet from a program that has already sent invites to other candidates, you could still be on the "wait and see" list for an interview

Do they seriously not even bother to tell you they don't want you? So when is a realistic point in time to hang it up and realize that no more offers will come? december? late november?😕

From last year's thread, people were getting invites even in Janurary. So maybe 1st week of Jan is reasonable?

OMG! January is soooooooo far away. That would be terrible to have to wait that long. It would also make me wonder whether or not I was on the programs 5th waiting list. I think early December will have to be my cut off.

Don't know if this helps, but I hadn't heard anything from a particular university and I called them to 'inquire about the status of my application'. I was then told that they would not be offering me an interview. This is a program that was higher on my list - I told them that and offered to email the director/chair/anyone else to further express my interest, and was told, quite flatly, that this was a final decision and they would under no circumstance be offereding me an interview. Not that they were ever going to clue me in unless I called, I suppose! But I do appreciate their honesty.
So I guess some don't even bother to tell you. 🙁

That really sucks, I am sorry. At least you know now. I wonder what their decisions are based on. For the two interviews that I have done, I could tell that almost none of the interviewers had even read my application. So it begs the question, what are they basing their invitations upon?

No harm in asking, worst case is they say they've sent out all the invites. Our program has 20 spots and will get 900-1100 applications. So, I doubt they sent several hundred "No Thank You" cards. Nobody has time in that office around this time of year. It isn't being rude, they just don't have time.

I called almost all the programs I applied to that I hadn't heard from by about 4 weeks after applications went out. Almost all of them were nice about it, and they would tell me 1) we haven't started looking at aps yet 2) we've started looking but haven't gotten to yours yet 3) you're on hold/waiting for your dean's letter 4) we're not interested. There was only one that was rude (shall go unnamed but if they decide to offer me an interview I shall decline!) but several that were wonderful (Carrol at Wake Forest was one that stands out as being exceptionally nice and helpful. Kudos Carrol.). I would encourage you to call - if nothing else, it shows continued interest in their program, which isn't a bad thing in my book. I even had one secretary/assistant offer to tell the committee that I had called, expressed interest, and that she would ask them to review my application again.
Besides, this is their business, and though I completely agree with not sending out hundreds of 'no thank you' cards, I think they will be honest and upfront with you if you call. Atleast that's what I choose to believe!
