Generally....how many letters are needed?

Thanks!

Most of the schools that I've looked into require 3 letters...one from bio, chem and physics. Though it usually depends on the individual school.

It depends on the school. Some schools ask for LOR from non-science professor and one or two ask for LOR from a dentist.

It is always good to have at least 4 LORs just in case one of your professors forgot to write it or takes too much time, or even lost in mailing to AADSAS.

If I happen to work with dental faculty/dentists, and I get 2 from them, one from my o-chem teacher and one from me non-science teacher would that work?

Not to sound like a smarta$$, but why not just ask the schools you are interested in?

Different schools have different LOR requirements. You can usually get these information on the schools' website. If not, contact them.

i did in the school(s) that am interested in, but i got the cold shoulder from the admin side. so i was wondering to ask the fellow SDN members.

basically my question was, if i have two from my teachers and two from dental faculty/dentsist, is that ok, or do i need to have them all from my professors? my boss (for the last three years) was also willing to write me a letter of recommendation, or is that overkill?

I recommend getting a commitee letter from your school's prehealth advising commitee. They take all the recommendations you get and write one big letter. I think it guarntees you admissions somewhere. I have a friend who applied the same time as me with simlar stats and I used the commitee and he didnt. I got interviews from all but 2 schools on my list and accepted to 2 so far. He still waiting.
It makes a difference, because its your college/university endorsing you as a student.
Give this a shot. Do it soon because theres usually an autobiography you have to hand to them too. plus, that autobio will help you with your aadsas too, it wont hurt

Committee letters are great and will suffice, but not every school has such committees in place. My LOR lineup included two science professors, one liberal arts professor, and a practicing dentist (that also happened to be one of my professors). Most schools require at least one from a biology and chemistry professor if a committee letter is not possible as well as another from a dentist or professor. Most of the LOR requirements for each school are detailed in the ADEA application instruction booklet.

2 from science professors to meet the minimum. This will be enough so your file is "complete" and hence will actually be reviewed. Anymore really isn't necessary.

someone at Stony Brook called me saying that they need a 3rd letter, I told them not goign to happen. And it was cool.
