Since this board seems to be dead, let's try to bring it back to life with a nice swift kick in the pants.

1. So how many schools are you applying to?

2. And what made you decide on the programs you're applying to?

3. Why is this board dead?

Did you know: According to the match stats, people applied to 20 schools last year, which seems to be a hell of a lot!

Did you know: during the interview season last year, one person ended up going insane!

My ans:

1. I applied to 15.

2. Location, Location, Location. I picked programs based on their location and whether I'd enjoy living there. I know it's crazy.

3. This board is dead because: people are busy filling out their CAS (NO!), because in actual fact only 3 people are applying to Neurology. I mean who in their right mind would apply to a field, where you don't do anything! 😉

22 programs. I am keeping my options open and will see how many interviews I get. I am applying to a few big name programs, but I am really interested in how the program feels when I interview, how well residents are treated, how good the teaching is, and location.

23 programs, mostly based on location (midwest) and good things I've heard from residents and on this board. This may be too many programs but I want to make sure I get 8-10 interviews, and frankly I have no idea how competitive I am.

I'm applying to 35 programs or so. I don't think I'm as competitive, so why not. I'm only $200,000 in debt. What's another $400+?

I haven't been on here for a while. Actually CAS has kept me very busy along with everything else.

C ya'll around. Good to yall.

Heck 35 or more programs (cause i'm an img) havent decided yet... I'm not competitive so mostly gona apply to 2nd tier programs.

I'm applying to about 20 peds neuro programs, mostly those in the Eastern half of the US

I'm now actually applying to 20 too!

Hey everyone! I haven't been to this site in ages...started intern year in mid June (too early!) and am tired, tired, tired. Can't believe it's been a year since we were all going through the CAS/interview thing. This board will probably pick up once interviews start pouring in. I definitely recommend you guys to start a thread about interview impressions once you start going on them--it was quite useful last year. Yup, the more active this site is, the more you'll get out of it-I was on it all the time last year, especially in Dec/Jan. My apologies for not being able to contribute more before this--if anyone has any questions at all please feel free to PM me and I'll try to answer as soon as I can. I think I've gotten used to the exhaustion by now (okay, wishful thinking) so hopefully I can be better at doing things like surfing the net and giving some more advice---props to Goph for being able to keep up with both the site and intern year! Good luck all!

Applied to 28 (I'm paranoid) because I'm unsure about how competitive I am (Pros: Combined degree program applicant, strong clerkship grades/ Cons: Step 1 was not fun the first time around...215 when it did go well, no research). It's been 3 weeks since CAS was mailed off and I have gotten 2 interviews so far (listed in another thread) and no rejections (bracing). My "Gunner" schools are Hopkins, Mt. Sinai, Cornell and Cleveland Clinic...will let you guys know how those go.

My list:
UCSF
UCLA
UCSD
Stanford
USC
UC Davis
Wash U
U Wash
OHSU
Case
CCF
Penn
Partners
Hopkins
Emory
U Chicago

1. Back in the day (when neuro was even noncompetitive) I applied to 19.

2. I know the rank-list-fanatics will shudder to hear it, but location is probably a more important criteria than the US News "Best Hospitals" list. After all, who cares if you're at MGH if you hate everything about your surroundings. There IS life outside the call room. I applaud you for your wisdom.

3. The whole reason I went into neuro was because I thought I wouldn't have to do anything! Sadly, people now expect me to actually care for patients. Bah humbug!

I'm applying to 14 programs... 5 in Texas and others from bordering states like Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Iowa, Wash-U, Vandy, Tulane. To be technical though, only Tulane borders Texas but I won't express my feeling about the state on the other side of the Red River.

I'm not sure what that MGH soliloquy was about. I interviewed there and thought that the program and people were great. My impression was that all of the top-tier programs were very friendly. It was some of the high second-tier programs that gave me attitude...
