I want to start a thread for those of us that are applying in 08. Give up your stats and how many schools your planning on applying to. For those who have already been through the grinder feel free to share some of your wisdom with us. I'll start 3.8 BCP, 3.9 Overall, and 27 M. Im planning on applying to 10 schools...

If you're looking for commentary on your numbers, if you apply to 10 schools, I'm sure that you'll get multiple acceptances.

If you're looking for just opinions, I would say that don't use the number 10 as your guideline. Look at the schools, figure out which schools appeal to you, and apply to all of the ones where you can see yourself attending. If factors like region, weather, residency match list, student demographics, cost of attending/living are important to you, find out at least some degree of information about them.

And if you're looking for examples...according to AACOMAS (thank goodness for the "total" GPA calculations), I have a 3.1 overall and 2.9 science (graduate and undergraduate combined.) I took most of these classes around 10 year ago. 34R on the MCAT, August 2006. So I'm a difficult one to judge. Applied to 6 D.O. schools, did 5 secondaries (the MSU-COM secondary overwhelmed me, for whatever reason) and garnered 3 interviews. So far, two acceptances and one waitlist.

Good luck on this cycle! If you want any more information/opinions than all of that babbling I did above, feel free to ask. 🙂

if you cant narrow your list down to 15(md/do) not including your state schools. Your reaching. You should be able to figure out where you can realistically get into in that amount. If you see yourself needing to apply to as many schools as possible to get in somewhere, then don't apply YET. take a year ormore to get your application together to where you have the best chance of getting in. If you plan this process should only have to be once, maybe twice. If you need a third try then you really need to reevaluate your career options. Its harsh but in the end might be the best thing

I respectfully disagree. I applied to way too many schools,(22), but ended up with many great options, and seeing as how this is a one time deal-(for me anyhow)- I figured i would give myself the best chance possible at attending a medical school in the US. Also, my GPA was borderline, and my MCAT was not, so i had no idea who would and would not look at me- it's a very random process.

I would recommed doing your homework. Your GPA is great, the MCAT is middle-tier, but still competetive. As always, my number 1 advice is to apply early, no matter how many schools. If you have the financial resources to spend more money, apply to more places (as long as they attract you). Don't apply somewhere that you do not think you would actually go. Basically it comes down to the mula. I dropped a ton (well more than that) on my app, but I got in, and I had the chance to sort of pic where I wanted to go. Good luck.
