How many schools?

If someone has average stats (3.4 GPA, 330 OAT), how many schools should the person apply to (roughly)? Thanks.
 
You may already have the web page below, which shows the GPA’s, and OAT scores for each school. These are average scores and not minimums. You can see from the table that you are competitive but not far from the averages. Berkeley is very competitive but SCCO is in range of your scores if you have a good interview. I would suggest applying to at least five schools. Applying doesn't cost much. Once they ask you to attend interviews that is when it starts costing money - plane tickets, hotel, etc. You may be able to defer second choice interviews and go to your favoured choices first but this can be risky. You have to consider that optometry school is going to cost a lot of money and a couple of plane tickets will be the least of your worries. Pacific in Oregon is also a good school and the next closest.
