Just curious - how many second looks is everyone doing? I am thinking my top 3 - but have not decided yet! I think I know what my first choice will be, but have not really figured out the rest of my ROL list yet.

None. I had 2 set up but had to cancel both for reasons outside my control. I tried to set up a few more this month but I'm on an elective and didn't want to ask for days off for second looks and none of the programs I contacted would take second looks on weekends. Eh. What can you do? I've heard mixed thoughts on why/when to do them anyway, so I'll just have to figure things out without it.

None as well. When all is said and done, won't matter.

I did three (for fellowship) but it was more for me to gain more experience/information on the program. Allowed me to meet more fellows, watch OR cases, etc. Wasn't to try and improve my ranking on their list.

One because I was less than pleased with the resident turnout at my top spot. It was a very positive experience for me, turns out there really were extenuating circumstances.

Not to the programs, but maybe they will to you, because that's what they're for. I'm a fan of doing them to help differentiate between your top 1-3 programs, especially if they're in very different geographic areas. A 2nd look is also usually less harried and you can often take the time to spend an extra day in town to get a look at the place. It's also a good time to take your spouse/SO with you if s/he isn't familiar with the locations.

If you're doing 2nd looks to impress programs you deserve to lose the money you're spending. You'd be better off using the $400-800 you'll spend to buy lottery tickets, the ROI is better.
