How many summer internships to apply for to guarantee admission?

Pretty much what the thread says. I am personally on waitlists or am awaiting decisions from medical schools after interviewing, but I'm still trying to gain experience in case I have to re-apply. How many summer internships should I apply to? I was thinking of 10.

Nothing can guarantee admission. Many summer programs are very competitive, so I would apply as many as you are comfortable with.

I would also consider a plan B like applying to internships or grants internally offered in your college.
