How many years are neurosurgeons active after residency?

I ask this because it seems like all the neurosurgeons at my school are under 50. What do neurosurgeons do after they become too tired to operate?

been wondering the same thing as i debate back and forth between neurosurgery and neurology... what do neurosurgeons do after they're "too old" to operate, especially if they're in private practice? teach? research? consult? travel the world?
