Hey guys,

I was just reading all of the this stuff about Pulpal walls on this forum, and realized I have NO idea what you are saying. Were you in a similar situation in which you had next to no knowledge of this general stuff before your first year?

Some...but by no means anywhere near what I know now. I'd say slightly more than the general nondental public.

Nothing at all, and it hasn't hurt me in dental school in the slightest.

I started out knowing zero, then learned a lot, and now I'm forgetting again. Life's a circle!

I knew a negative amount of information regarding dentistry. Take somebody who knows nothing about dentistry, make them a bit dumber, and voila! you have me.

Seriously. And like Bill, I haven't been behind. 99% of my class is in the same boat.

Funny story: in our radiology class (we had it once a week, 4 hours a time, for 7 or 8 weeks) our professor put up a bitewing radiograph, and the guy next to me leaned over and asked "Are those mountains?" in reference to the teeth. He wasn't joking, and he wasn't alone in his thinking.

Do not worry about what you know and don't know. In all truth, you will be beat to death with repetitive information your first year. Like, stuff in dental anatomy will carry over to stuff in gross anatomy. Stuff in biochem will carry over into phsyiology.

And all this stuff will be repeated over and over till you pass the class.

Like I said, I knew little more than what the average person does. So, I didn't know much. Even if you never took neuro, physio, gross, biochem (like Tufts requires), histo, patho, even physics you'll be fine to pass. That's how much they beat you down with information.

I honestly don't know why they required biochemistry and recommend you take elective sciences in undergrad. I mean, you've familiarized yourself with sciences and their general difficulties with bio, chem, physics, and calc.

Seriously, relax dentaldream. You're more than prepared for dental school...you're floating on SDN and DentalTown.
