How much detail should I give about gap year activity?

Many secondaries are asking what I'm doing until matriculation. I'm working in a research lab in NYC at an institution with a medical school. Obviously on that school's secondary I'll point it out, but on the other secondaries should I tell them exactly where I'm working (a major competitor for many of these schools) or just vaguely tell them "a cell biology research lab in NYC?"

Why would you not tell med schools where you're working? This is important because if you leave out the details, they'll assume that you made it up.

Also, not to be too harsh, but this just plain doesn't make a lot of sense and sounds paranoid. Are you sure that you're thinking about this the right way?

I’m going to give them all the details about what I do. But should I say I work in the X lab in Y univesity (with a rival med school). Or just Y university? Or just say that I’m working in a lab and leave out the university so they dont assume I’m less interested in them because I work for a competitor who they may assume I’d rather attend

Yes, give them all the details. Honesty is the best policy.

Lots and lots of premeds work in labs associated with universities/medical schools. It is completely understood that all of these students will be applying to schools other than the one for which they work.

Medical schools are not trapped in these highschool-esque feuds. They are not football rivals who hate each other's "teams"
