I have realized in my short time here that a lot of people have a wealth of knowledge about medically related topics. BUT NEVER ask for a critique, you will get hounded!

i tend to believe most things if they are confirmed by two sources on here... people lying? about what their stats? 🙄 let them have their fun, it doesn't affect me in any way

I only ask questions that will help me. And I take all subjective responses and throw them away, because in my opinion, everyone here knows as much as I do: nothing.

i just use sdn to feel good knowing that there are people that are as crazy and anxious as i am.

Me, too 👍

What do you think people are lying about? I never read the "what are my chances" type threads, so that cuts out scores and stuff.

I too have appreciated knowing that so many other people were as freaked out and obsessive as I've been in the last year. Thanks SDN.

I think a lot of people lie about who they are. It's not that they necessarily give out faulty information, but they might present themselves as someone besides who they really are so that you are more likely to believe them.

Hey Q, I think yours is the coolest avatar ever. 😍

Just curious

I've found that things posted by folks who've been around for a while are usually good, but that everything is infused with opinion. If you are skilled you can separate the wheat from the chaff. There is great info on here, but you have to distill it out of the not so great. Folks who have been on SDN for a very short period of time before posting threads tend to be most suspect, as it sometimes takes a week or two to flush out the trolls.

I'll have to throw away your response now 😛

when it comes to appication and date related subjects this site is good. However, I think there is way to much speculation, presented as absolute fact, which is prbobaly fueled by the obsessive tendencies caused by applying to medical school coupled to the premed tendency towards knowitallism.

Haha you'd think the Allo forum wouldn't have the same problem...nope.

Once a premed, always a premed... 🙁

The main issue on SDN isn't people who lie but people who present personal speculation or third degree hearsay as fact.

In that same vein, but more specifically, I don't like it when people claim knowledge of "what ADCOMs want." There are what, something like 125 (+/-) allopathic schools in the nation? Until you have been intimately involved with a majority of the admissions committees, any statements are either based on anecdotal evidence (my friend had published research and got in right away, so schools take researchers first) or statistics that should be mind-numbingly obvious (e.g. "ADCOMs want applicants with good grades and high MCAT scores).

Being able to speak about what all admissions committees want is a very daunting task, and of all responses, those should be taken with a high level of scrutiny.

HAHA! I just find it ironically hysterical and/or hysterically ironic that the OP got banned for trolling. How fitting that they started this thread! 🙄

Only on SDN. 😛

No, it is funny, but if there's one thing I don't get about Q, it's how she can enjoy orgo. Definitely not for me. Sorry, Q.

haha, i think my orgo teacher drew the exact same diagram when we learned abt dienes! are you an orgo teacher, Q? i'm wondering if it's a common thing among you folk. btw, if you are, you seem like you'd be a very good teacher b/c you always manage to explain things in a way that's understandable and non-offensive to everyone (and it seems like you're the only sdner who can do that 😉 ).

about the original poll: i voted that i believe almost everything. i think i'm way too gullible! 🙄

I base all of my responses on hearsay and conjecture.

Hi there,
No one on this forum has to TRUST anything that is posted here. As adult students, you are all able to research anything that you see. When it comes to one's career, it only makes sense to check out anything that could affect it.

To blindly follow anything is pretty lame for anyone who anticipates a career in medicine. I have the ability to do my own research and evaluations and thus will reject things that I find to be faulty and utilize things that are useful.

Most SDN people are very genuine in their attempts to aid or answer questions but not all. It's "buyer beware" on anything that involves the internet and especially with forums. One needs to critically evaluate anything that can have a profound effect on one's career.

I take everything on this forum for what it is. An opinion.
You can use these opinions to your advantage since often it's a perspective that you haven't challenged.
It's kind of a big brain storming session and it's up to you to find out if the opinion is correct.
