Hi everyone just curious. How much does the ranking of undergrad matter for admission to Osteopathic medical school...?? Do DO schools care a lot if you took prerequisites and classes from low ranking 4 year colleges and community colleges..? Just curious. I read a lot that many people got into DO school with a lot of credits taken from CCs and degrees from low ranking colleges.

Does it matter..? Just curious.

Just do well where you go. Goro says it doesn't matter. The MCAT is the great equalizer

I think if you're at a 4 year institution it's pretty much equalized, but community college courses are typically considered easier and you probably don't want a B in a course at a community college if it's a science course.

Just to add, a lot of PA schools don't accept any pre req courses (biology, ochem, gen chem, etc.) from community colleges.

Take them wherever you gotta take them and get that GPA up. Take the MCAT and don't get raped and apply early and you should get in somewhere.

FWIW, I found one thing common in my CC and 4-year courses. If you want to work hard and keep a doable course load... you will do fine.

O-chem is O-chem. Anatomy is anatomy. Physio is physio wherever you take it. just like there are easy professors at a 4-year, there are also hard-asses at the CC level. Just go where you need to. This is just my experience. I'm sure others mileage will vary.

At my school, we care very little about where you went to UG. We also do not look down upon CC credits; many of my current students have plenty of CC coursework.

What we care about is that you do well, no matter where you go to school, Kutztown State or Harvard.
