I'm sure there exists a sizeable chunck of the SDN audience that are as freakish about a properly formatted Excel spreadsheet as I am...

How much have you spent so far on everything? I have spent $2,176.70, which includes my application fees and all considerations (minus incidentals/food) for all my scheduled interviews, except accomodations in Michigan and a flight to Baltimore, so you can probably tack on another $400 right there.

So is that 2100 only on interviews? Or including your apps too?

sorry, that wasn't clear (ill fix it). it's AMCAS, TMDSAS, letter fees, airfare, accomodations... ive had 1 int, and im currently mkaing travel arrangements for my upcoming ones.

I've spent a little over 2000 and i'm yet to even be complete (still waiting on an LOR)

I just looked this up: 1860

Not including the 220 I just dropped on a flight to baltimore and the 110 i spent for a hotel in nashville....

Thank you excel and your wonderful addition feature...

I know this is a stupid question, but why didn't you guys apply to a local school, like personally since i live in california, in a year i'm going to apply to every uc school thus saving a couple of dollars on plane tickets

Because some of us live in states with only one medical school. Not everyone lives in New York, Texas or California.

That's only 5 schools. If you are from California, you need to apply to a lot more than that and it will cost you an arm and a leg in the overall process. Plus, if you live in Northern California, you will still need to fly to Southern California (unless you like driving for 10 hours in each direction!)

Back to the topic. Counting Kaplan, Primary App, Secondaries, Plane tickets for my first 2 interviews, new suit/shoes/etc, I think I'm somewhere around $6000 or so. Mind you, this is chump change compared to the $200,000 debt I'll rack up in med school.

just gr8..i started a thread like this yesterday.....sure go ahead ignore the little guy......well watever...

i spent....225 for a suit, 80 shoes, and 10 for gas...that brings the total to 315 fun fun

~$3000 (22 apps + AMCAS)
~$1000 (fllights to 4 interviews)
add another few hundred dollars for food @ interviews & taxies

everytime i look at my credit card bill, i cringe 🙁

Y'all are forgetting the $190 for the MCAT.

$190 MCAT
$200 suit
$50 shoes
$105 TMDSAS App (6 Texas School apps)
$85 A&M and Texas Tech Secondaries
$40 gas for one interview last weekend and I have 2 more coming up. They are quite a bit farther than Houston so I'll add it in later. I expect it to be around $150-$200.
$15 night before social (they didn't pick the cheapest place in the world...I had one mini cheesburger and one dos equis)

I think that's about it for now. The total comes up to $685!! Not as bad as those in the 2K region, but that's b/c I can't afford to apply out of state. The AMCAS fee is ridiculous compared to the TMDSAS fee.

Good luck everybody and hopefully all this money from our pockets will pay off soon with an acceptance letter! :luck: :luck: :luck:

Ugh... not including test prep, the MCAT, or classes I have to retake and pay for myself... so far its...

$2350

And I don't even have interviews yet! I'm going to end up needing to cash out my 401K... oh well... all for the sake of getting into medical school.

I've spent just short of 2K so far. I'll likely hit almost 4K by the time "deposits" are included in the figure.

In excess of $2000, sad to say. and it only goes up from here. 🙁

I have spent around $1500, but this is before trips to interviews. Depending on how my first interviews go, I will end up spending around $2500 total.... at least...

About $2500.

And no interviews as of yet... 🙁

ooh. *makes spreadsheet*

$1500 so far -- MCAT, AMCAS for nine schools, suit, secondaries, fee my school charges to mail out LORs, and airfare to the one interview I've gotten thus far.

Good Lord, I can't believe how expensive the process is. Where are you guys getting all this money? Where will I get the money....

Exactly $4,242--includes: MCAT, AAMCAS, Photos, Letters, Secondaries...no interviews yet. I'm estimating up to 10,000 when it's all said and done.

mine is about $200 since I have FAP and that I wouldn't have to fly to my interview. It's good to live in Louisiana 👍

1208.51, not counting suit or MCAT.
1607.50, with them included

Well it has already cost me so much I can't believe it?????? 🙁

1500 Kaplan
1390 MCAT+ AMCAS
2350 for secondaries so far so a total of $5240 (plus $600 for each post-bacc class I had to take....total of 11 so far....2 more to go...so when I finished I would have spent $7800 for classes not including the parking fees)

total of $13,040 plus about 6-700 for parking........Grand total of $13,740 so far........

this all not inclusive of the interview expenditure I will incur 🙁

I think we have a clear winner here 👍 👍

Not that I wanted to ........hopefully I will get an early admissioin somewhere and then I can save some money on the ones I won't go to..........

Later.......gotta go and recalculate the check book....hopefully there is still some left for the interviews :scared: :scared: 😡

I love my Microsoft Money program. Keeps everything all neat and tidy for me. Unfortunately it also has my credit card debt staring me in the face. 🙁

Forgive me, but I'm new here. What is TDMSAS?

Its TMDSAS and stands for Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service. Texans have their own system for med school applications. Let me tell you, besides the fees (it's much cheaper than AMCAS), it sucks. The website is horrible. http://www.utsystem.edu/tmdsas/ The personal statement has to be shorter than AMCAS (I had to delete a paragraph from my PS). When you are putting in the courses you have taken and the grades, if you miss ONCE couse, you have to DELETE everything you entered and start over.....ugh...
But in the end...I guess I can't complain. Tuition for Texas schools is much cheaper than other schools. How can you beat $7500 for a year????
