Hello,

I am constantly going over and over my dental application because I keep thinking of things I need to put. Regarding High School info, do I include that stuff? Let me give an example of what I mean.

I was heavily involved in sports - 1st team all-state my Junior and Senior years in both football and baseball. State champion in the 100M in track, along with a state record in the same event. Non-sport activities: National Honors Society, Peer leadership group, Senior class Vice Pres., Voted top 8 in arizona for acedemic/scholastic (student/athlete). Top 90% GPA in class.

Sorry to list it all, but I was hoping someone would know and tell me what info I should include and what I should not include. SOme people say that the more the better, but I was confused as to whether or not that meant high school achievements. I was much more involved in high school for obvious reasons - I didn't have to work and provide for a family, so now my focus is school and providing for my wife and daughter. Thanks in advance.

Well the truth of the matter is you can include highschool, but thats really not going to count for much. In your case you seem to have done more in highschool than most people don throughout their highschool and college years. Unfortuantely, Ad-coms will glance at it, and say "good, but what did he do in college." College is one of those times where if you shine, ad-com love you. If you didn't shine then post-bac will make up for it etc. But remember putting down all the stuff from highschool, and then nothing for college may raise an eye........."what happened, lost interest?" all that nonsense. Try to keep it as smooth as possible.

i believe that taking care of your family will shine more than your list of academic/sport achievements in high school. high school activities are not weighed that much. your high school achievements will not be a critical factor of your application. however, elaboratation of your responsibility of taking care of your family will show your personal character. (my opinion)

Shootin,

Thats great advice and a great point. I think being smooth about it will be the key. Thanks a lot..

I guess it will all depend on how well I am able to express to the ad-coms how these activities helped me improve as a person - be it as an athlete, student or father/husband. Great advice.. thanks a lot.
