I mean NMR is important, it determines how many carbon and H are in the molecule. But how much NMR do you need to use? Im good IR; however NMR is like... I only understand it 80%.

Ill try to bush up my NMR if it is important; would it help if I do research to learn more about the NMR this way?

Edit: I didnt spell NMR as nmr ><. Was typing too fast.

Don't worry about NMR and even organic chemistry. As an incoming P2, I can tell you with certainty that I did not use 99% of organic chemistry in my first year of pharmacy school. Personally, I don't understand what's all the hype about organic and pharmacy school. I'm a student at NSU and we do not use any organic. The only topics you need to be well versed in are functional group identification, ACID-BASE chemistry, charges, and very general solubility/dissolution principles; in other words, elementary chemistry. I would say pharmacy schools that incorporate medicinal chemistry into the curriculum definitely require application of organic chemistry knowledge. However, at my school, med. chem is not part of the curriculum and therefore we see none of its applications, such as SARS (structure-activity relationships). Hope this helps.

I took 2 years of ochem, 2 years of anal chem, 1 year of phytochem. Used spectroscopy (UV, IR, NMR, MS) in ochem and in applied pharmacognosy.....still see no point to all this chemistry and BS!!

oh, and 2 years of med chem.

does pharmacy school include anal chem and physical chemistry? I heard there is some kinetics in pchem. I against taking anal, but, if needed, I will.

that's what she said
She took 2 years of analy chem (1 year from undergrad and 1 from pharmacy school, I hope Im not putting words in your mouth;sorry!). I have none, Im going to at least take 1 semester of anal chem if it help me in pharmacy school and it's exams.

oh dear God..... didn't expect it would come to that, anyway, you probably know it but anal chem= analytical chemistry.

but you never know who reads these posts...

and i also lol'd at "that's what she said".

🙄

><... I thought the person knows you personally.... Oh boy... I should never assume.

Sorry for the double post, my computer is acting up

The fun thing about those rooms with the NMR is to find out what can be magnetically charged by throwing things.

Actually GC-MS is where its at, that thing spits out the identity of ****.... I remember using it and wondering why the **** did I bother looking at the other ****.
