How much of a difference does a GPA of 3.58 vs 3.60 make to be looked at further?

I know it's just 0.02 of a difference, but If it was 3.60 vs 3.62 it wouldn't make much difference because they're in the same category (3.6's).

From what I understand that MCAT and GPA screens out the applications that Adcoms would further look at, and that schools have algorithms that filters out applicants at a certain GPA.

I Would like to hear your $0.02 (heh).

EDIT: Just did LizzyM. LizzyM says that if I had an MCAT of 515, a GPA of 3.58 yields 60% chance of getting admitted, while a 3.60 yields 74%.

It makes zero difference. No school in the United States filters 3.6+.

I used to worry about this but after having left college for less than a year I don't even remember my GPA lol

not gonna lie, I was pissed that my science GPA came out to 3.49 and not 3.50... but it is more aesthetic than anything
According to my LizzyM score if my GPA was .01 higher I'd have a ~80% chance of acceptance but since it's not I have like a 68% haha

my cGPA was 3.57 and MCAT was 507 (~29.5)... so I essentially average the 3.4-3.59/27-29 MCAT with bracket above it to give myself a more realistic "chance"

I think you have an 85% chance of getting accepted with a 3.60 and a 31% chance with a 3.58

That's based on brackets that go from 3.4-3.59 and 3.6-3.74 or 3.79 or something. The percentage doesn't represent an exact chance at every single GPA within that big range (someone with a 3.4 and a 3.59 don't have the exact same chance, it's just an average). So you'd be somewhere in between those since you are right at the cutoff. Do what Frogger said.

In all honesty do not even look at those charts... a 3.58 and 515 is great from a stats perspective and with a well chosen school list those will not be what holds you back

Those chances are greatly skewed by where the applicant lives and to which schools they're submitting to. People who live in "lucky" states, for example.

I sometimes worry about how people this neurotic will survive the furnace of medical school. Maybe we know who is making up the pool of the 25% of med students who are depressed?

So, how can we screen for that in Admissions and interviews?????

You're really suggesting screening depressed individuals @Goro ??

Lol holy ****

Nope, just the opposite...screening out the neurotic!

I had someone PM me to ask if they'd never get into a certain specialty because they weren't good at sports. I am NOT making this up.

The difference in your odds is likely the same as the odds of flipping a coin ten times in a row and getting heads each time.

The difference between 3.58 and 3.6 is 0.02. No student didn't get an interview/admitted because of such a small amount. Worry more about your MCAT, quality of PS, EC's and so on since that matters much more than a .02 difference in GPA.
