How much of an impact does the school you attend have on your resume?

Does anyone have any experience with one person being chosen over another with a reason being the differences in the schools they attended?

Very little unless your school is brand new. USNWW rankings aren't valid outside of the pre-pharmacy forum.

Seems like most people do not care which school one attends-your abilities, work ethic, and personality carry the day.

At one SoCal residency interview, the director said that USNWW ranking was used for point assignment when determining which 20% of the pool to interview. Applicants that attended USNWW unranked schools that also did not give traditional letter grades were excluded from an interview invitation. Points were given for GPA, previous undergraduate/graduate degrees, extracurriculars, leadership roles, etc. The site also used a Multiple Mini Interview process. It was the only place that explained their selection process in detail.

minimal at best - and that only has to do with intial "getting a residency" applications, after that, zilch. I went to an average pharmacy school - graduated in top 3% of my class, and my GPA means nothing now that I am out of school 10 years, nor should it. 95% of what I use on a daily basis was not taught in pharmacy school

From what I've gathered, going to some schools can exclude you from getting the residency of your dreams, but going to a "great" (or highly ranked) school does not guarantee you the residency of your dreams.

After your first job or two, the school probably doesn't matter too much.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. Pharmacy schools train you for a job that does not exist outside of academia.

That was true 20 years ago too.

From what I've seen, all else being equal, an applicant from an "old" school will be given preference over an applicant from a new school. But since usually all things aren't equal between applicants, coming from a newer school will have minimal effect.

The deciding factor will be location, location, location. If you want to live in the cities, you are screw regardless of where you have graduated.
