How much of ranking difference is actually relevant?

Hi, I am currently in a BS/MD program @ VCU. Since this medical school has a solid match list and I have in-state tuition, I am really only looking at schools that have a major leg up in reputation/ranking.

Which brings up the question, how much of a ranking difference is actually significant? Thanks for you all your advice in advance.

Depends without specific names of schools. Rankings means opportunities and prestige. If a school offers you what you need, then maybe ranking a few spots above isn’t that big of a deal. But a T20 vs a T100(whatever that means) is a big difference even if you think you’ll be supported at that lower ranked school.

Outside the T20 I honestly think it doesn't matter aside from regional preference. I think that T20-T40/50 gives a leg-up in regional preference (ex: UF/Miami, although worse-ranked than other T20s, has an edge in the southeast comparable to a T20). T50-T100+ are all comparable, meaning school fit matters more in this tier (ex: A T100 with a certain program / more research opportunity might be better than a T50 without said-program / less research opportunity might be better for you)
