UF only gives only one month for MS4's to interview for res. programs and no time to prep for step2 (all prep must be done while taking classes). Most MS4's I talk to say that a month is not nearly long enough, especially those whose are applying to dozens of competitive programs or applying for a trans. year program as well as their regular res. program. I was curious if this was normal across the country. Could anyone please post how much time their school (or any other school they know of) gives for interviewing, step2 prep., and the name of the school. Thanks a bunch in advance.

By time, do you mean time off? We don't get any time off for residency interviews or Step 2 preparation. I always thought that it was normal to try to squeeze in interviews and study time during your easier rotations.

Hi there,
My school gave us 2 weeks between the end of third year and the start of fourth year to study for USMLE Step II. It turned out that that was just about enough time for this test. (I did not have to take the CS Part of USMLE Step II).

We were allowed to take no more than 4 days total from each fourth-year elective to interview. Most clinical preceptors were very lenient in terms of giving you extra time if you were traveling cross country. We also had a month of vacation time that could be used for an extra elective or as an interview month if necessary. It turned out that with the four days and some wonderful understanding preceptors each month, I had more than enough time to do interviews.

Good luck and enjoy your interviews!

Step 2 Studying = 2 weeks
Interview Time = 8 weeks

Wow, that's ridiculous. That's over 3 months of time off! Do you guys actually learn anything fourth year? Do you go to Yale? 😉
