I recently brought loupes (d1) from orascopic and so far I'm pleased with the loupes. But as for headlight I havent used it once and I'm wondering if there is any benefit to having a brighter field with a headlight vs just using the chair overhead light.

So far all my preps I have done without using the headlight once and was wondering if I should just return it or if the headlight will come in handy with more complex cases

what mag are you using? if you use 4x and above, the bright light that can blind anyone looking at it will be just okay under mag because the mag filters out a lot of brightness. try to get used to loupe light so u dont even have to use overhead light

I currently have the 3.5 magnification

Every day, all day. And you will most likely end up wishing you bought higher mag. Doing a prep on a typodont without a light is significantly different than on a live patient with lips, spit, and a python of a tongue.
This.

I will also add that a brighter light helped me even with the typodont. you can just see better. no reason not to use the light imo esp since you have it

yea lumadent prolux corded light trumps most other light in term of brightness and battery life and price so far (battery lasts like 15-16 hours per charge at max brightness)

I had ultralight as well but the brightness isnt that bright.

I have been working without my overhead light and love the freedom. get white light don't get yellow light. teeth are yellow to begin with so its easier to see the contrast with white light.

I regret getting an ultralight. The Lumadent is definitely better

80% of the time I use my loupes solely for the headlight.

I would also say yes to the lumadent light as well. Been happy with mine.

Since head light use is 💪👌 could you do away with overhead op lights?
I think you could, but they are helpful for your assistant or for cases where you are not directly using the telescope on your loupes (dentures, surgeries, ect).
I think if I were to build a new office, I would still have an overhead light even though I rely 90% on my loupes light.

I lost my brand name loupe battery and I refuse to pay the ~$500 for a replacement. I've done fine in dental school using the overhead chair light as my source of light. It's not essential, but it was nice to have. I'm going into OMFS, which is why I haven't bothered to purchase a new one.

OP, the headlight is definitely a big plus day-to-day. Your big stupid head can't block the loupe light like it can the overhead chair light. I would definitely use the head lamp to your advantage. Wait until you introduce spit, a tongue, cheeks, and a wiggling patient into the equation as your try to crown prep #15.
