dentists work for several years as a general dentist and then go back to school to specialize? and would it be easier to get in to a specialization if one took that route? just wondering.

A good number of the specialists I know and deal with practiced general dentistry for a few years before returning for additional training. Is it easier? I don't know!It can give you a broader perspective on the profession and insight into what your refering collegues are doing R.Scott DeBruin
ps. what is this preoccupation with specialization? A good number of the posts need to get into dental school and get out before thinking about specialization!

thanks so much for the feedback. personally, it isn't so much a preoccupation with specialization as it is a preparation for the possibility. i'm honestly more drawn toward general practice, but i have no clue what i'll feel like after a few years. there are so many different avenues available, especially when you consider armed forces service. just trying to cover the bases.
