This is my first time posting on SDN and I will not be applying for another 2 years. However, I wanted to see if anyone had any insight regarding my circumstances. Getting right to the point, I took 2 semesters (20 credits) of college credit my junior and senior year in high school through a "distance education" program. Although, I didn't do well at all in those classes and finished with about a 1.9 GPA for the college courses that I took, mainly trivial courses as well; woodworking, autocad, etc. Since then, I have averaged around a 3.8 and my cumulative GPA now sits at a 3.2 and by the time I graduate should fall around the 3.5 mark for both cumulative and science courses. My question is, how will med school admissions look upon this? Granted a 3.5 isn't the worst of all GPAs though it is certainly on the lower end for being competitive. I'm sure it's a guess for anyone, but in theory, will this preclude me from applying to many MD schools?

Well, considering your upward trend it, it should work out given your MCAT scores are good and you you have a good application. You could emphasize how you have matured over the years and learned from your mistakes. The only issue if you don't meet the minimum requirements for screening at some schools. If all else is good, I don't see this breaking you.

If your mcat score is good, you have nothing to worry about. If your entire college GPA is above 3.5 including the HS credits you have even less to worry about. The harvard's of the world might not throw you some love, but plenty of other schools will.
