How should IMGs go about sending MSPEs?

I'm a US-IMG who hopes for US residency (I'm citizen). Do IMGs also need to ask their deans/school president to send out MSPEs? I want to know ahead of time so I can get familiar with the Dean of Clinical Medicine.

Foreign schools are not as reliant on the MSPE and/or LOR processes. They often don't know what they're about.

When I chatted about LORs with some professors, they're puzzled, they weren't required to write LORs for their students, unlike the wide use of LORs in USA. That's why I only want American doctors during elective rotation to write them.

Will one have the opportunity to review MSPE before it is sent out?

Can foreign schools upload the same stuff to ERAS that US schools do? Or when the time comes, there's a way for me to do it all?

You need a MSPE but, as aPD has pointed out before, they're basically useless coming from foreign schools.

Is that because they don't have a formal post-grad training program like in the US? I quite honestly can't imagine that they've never written letters for people getting jobs. But whatever. You need LORs from US rotations. Anything from your med school (which clearly isn't one of the ones that routinely sends students to the US for residency) will be useless.

That's between you and the person who writes it. US students routinely get to see their MSPEs and edit them for factual errors but not for content.

This is all done through ECFMG. Check it out and you'll probably find answers to most of your questions.

Thanks, I've a long time, will read the official sites carefully. Friendly professors will write the LORs when the time comes. China just began post-grad training systems, requiring a min. of 3 years of residency in all specialties. They mostly use scores to decide who gets residency.

You're right, my school (rank #9) doesn't routinely send to US. Only sent 220 to 250 doctors in the last decade. In this class, only 20 Americans. The #1 school sent almost 900.

If the LORs or MSPE from my school will be useless, I guess I will get them as formalities. I know USMLE is the only equalizer then.
