Hey everyone!

I decided to take undergrad anatomy in my gap year for further preparation and I am really regretting it now. The class is filled with a lot of arbitrary requirements and what not, so I know part of my dislike is because of the administrative portion.

I find that the way our professor presents the material is like a bullet list of facts and not theoretical. The lab component is fine/ interesting (I enjoyed muscles). But overall, this class is a huge drag. Is medical school anatomy similar in pedagogy? I was a biochemistry major and I much prefer physiology / Biochem because of their theoretical leanings. I really just don't want to hate a large portion of medical school :/

Anatomy is sort of like the times tables, back in 3rd grade. It IS almost 100% memorization and sucks to power through it, but its extremely helpful to master it well enough that it becomes an automatic thing you dont have to think about. If you go into a non surg non rad specialty you can forget about a lot of it without any problem though.

Medical school anatomy is similar and worse than undergrad. You memorize about 3-5 times the names and structures that you learned in college and also have to be able to pick them out on cadavers. You'll also have a lot of clinical correlations.

I hate memorization, and love physiology like you do, but for me anatomy wasn't bad because it's relevant. You can physically see almost everything you learn and I think that's really cool. Unlike biochemistry where you probably memorize just as much crap, but there's no visual component. You'll never see or touch hexokinase, but you can visualize the thoracic duct, which for me made it a lot more tolerable.
