Thank you, thank you, thank you, and thank you to everyone on this forum. Stumbling upon this forum one day while studying in the library was a God send. I would have never known about Destroyer or anything if it weren't for all of you. You guys helped me, supported me, and cheered me on, so to every one, thank you forever! Special thanks to OsmisDDS, Mstoothlady, GreenWave (thanks for the notes). Brief background. This was my third time taking this God forsaken test, and hopefully I will never have to look at it again. Never thought I'd be writing this post right now, but my time came, and to all you who are still studying and reading this, keep on working hard, it will all pay off.

General Study: I worked MY ASS off for this test. And I didn't let up. If you want to kill this test, be ready to sacrifice time with friends and family to just work your ass off until you can't go on anymore. That was the difference in me taking this test this time from the previous two times. I was relentless and didn't let myself relax for one second. Seeing the posts on this forum of all those great scores just motivated me more to work that much harder. I began studying in the beginning of June and I made this exam my life. I ate, breathed, and sleeped DAT. I even had dreams about this f***ing test. So for those of you who are beginning the process, be ready to study like you've never studied before. The feeling afterwards is unmatched, and it is all worth it in the end.

Now for the good stuff....
Study Materials: Destroyer, Schaums, Barron's AP Bio, Kaplan BB, Achiever, Top Score, Kaplan online exams (someone was kind enough to send them to me), KSF (sucks), and AceTheDAT (also sucks, but has some pluses I'll get to), MCAT Hyperlearning, Crack the PAT

Bio: Destroyer saved my life on this one. I spent the majority of my time studying for this section, and I got myself on as many practice questions as possible. For Bio, I used Schaums, Destroyer, Kaplan BB, Baron's AP Bio, and Campbell's. I didn't use Schaums or Campell's that much, only for referance. Destoryer was where it was at though. I had to have gone over it at least 10 times. And when I mean go over, I mean read every question, and every word in every question, and make sure I UNDERSTOOD everything in the question. The key to Destoryer is understand everything. If there was any word in destroyer I didn't know, I put it down in my study guide. I started studying for Bio by making an outline using the Kaplan BB, and from there I went on Destroyer. Alot of the reason I did well here was because I majored in Bio, but I saw ALOT of questions that came straight out of destroyer and achiever. So do not let any question go by you. Write down whatever you don't understand, learn it, understand it, know it. I did every question I got my hands on, even every single one in the AP Barron's Book. The Barron's AP Bio book is money. It's concise, and has everything that you'll need to know. Schaum's is a waste of time, and you can get the same score by using just Barron's and Destroyer. This section isn't all that bad. Pretty straight forward. If you study as outlined above, you won't have a problem.

GenChem: I started studying for this two weeks before the exam. Had someone told me then that this would be my highest score I would've laughed at them. I used Kaplan and MCAT hyperlearning for this and also GreenWave's outline. But what hit the spot for this section was DESTROYER. Dear God, that book is amazing. I went over the GenChem in Destroyer over, and over again. I was most scared about this part but for the most part, mine was a mix of mild calculations, and conceptual problems. This section isn't bad at all, but again only if you know your stuff.

Orgo: I thought I did the best on this part during the exam. I was going through it laughing because it was so easy. I guess it showed me, but I'm not complaining about my score. Destroyer and Kaplan BB are great for this. Use this 1, 2 combo and you're golden for Orgo. Destroyer is great for Orgo and it will overprepare you. But over preparartion is the way to get a 20 and above, so if you want it, know Destroyer.

PAT: I used crack for this and my scores are the following. 20, 18, 18, 18, 21, 20, 20, 18, 20, 20. I'm suprised my score dropped here from when I took it the second time, but oh well. Crack is good for this. The pattern folding is easier, and so is the hole punching. Keyhole is mixed. And the angles are about the same....hard. AcetheDAT is good only for this part. If you are that concerned about angles and want good practice, buy the program and once you can do angles on that program, then you will be able to do angles anywhere. The angles on that program are literally one degree off and you'll find yourself pulling your hair out over it.

Reading: I did not take ONE single practice reading test before my test day. It actually turned out that my passages were the same exact ones from my previous test, so I got a bit lucky I guess. Not bad at all, and thank God I didn't get FRAPPED. This section is all about time management. If a question is taking a while for you to answer, mark and skip it and you'll end up finding somewhere along the road. That's what I did and you can see it's not all that bad of a method.

QR: Wow, is all I have to say about this section. I love math, and I'm pretty good at it, and I even did great on it on my last DAT, but the math I got today was pretty crazy. Coming from someone who only got two problems wrong on his SAT math section, this wasn't no walk in the park. There isn't much you can to prepare for this section, it's a hit or miss. But I wouldn't worry much about this section since schools can give a **** about QR. Just don't mess up that bad.

Yo, Salaam Bro,

Amazing job. What is your GPA? I retake my DAT tomorrow and have studied my ass of too. Hopefully it will pay off. Your previous scores were not that bad...why the retakes?

If you have the determination to retake the DAT three times, I have no doubt in my mind that you will land in a dental school this year. Good luck and keep me in your prayers.

congrats, those are great scores! I am retaking this saturday and have been studying hardcore as well. You're a good inspiration to all of us to show that hard work really does pay off 👍

WaSalaam TopDent,

The reason for my retake on the third time was because I didn't get in the first time I applied with those scores. My gpa is lacking, at about a 3.1 from Boston College. So insha'Allah hopefully things will be different this time. I'm doing a masters at UMDNJ in BioMed Sciences to help compensate for the gpa.

As far as your exam, hard work and dua will pay off man. Have faith in God and He will deliver, that is for sure. I prayed hard, and worked hard for the past two months. I will keep you and everyone else on this forum who is taking their test soon, in my prayers. Salaam

Do you know of other masters programs that are good for people looking to improve their academic records for dental schools?

Good job! Im taking it the second time around and your ambition to do well and taking this test three times is driving me to do my best too. 👍

Salam drzakisadiq,

Congrats on your success. I am taking mine for the third time in August 20th and really wish to feel the same way as you do after taking the test. I hope that I won't have to look at this DAT book again... EVER!
Wish you the best of luck:luck:

I did my master in Biotechnology and graduated in 2006. Do you think it makes a difference when dental schools are making their decision or they only care about the undergrad GPA?

it depends usually on the dental school, but in most cases they look more heavily on your masters if you didn't do all too great in undergrad. I met with the head of admissions for umdnj, and he said when they look at my appliation with my masters, they will more or less throw out my undergrad grades

nice scores drzakisadiq!
are u doing the program right now or going to start in august? i may have some questions about the umdnj program for u.

awesome scores, you did it 👍

Wow!!1 Your Bio stuff really helped me. This is the fourth time I am taking the DAT and I jumped all the way from 6 to 12!!! That is a WHOLE 6 POINTS. I know it is not great, but I am very proud of myself!!! I think a few more times and I might be up to around 15....YEAH!!!

By the way, I was reading some study material which said that all living things are made of carbon...but, although I have not seen all living things, I have seen some....and very few of them (except maybe black laboradors and some bears I've seen) actually look like carbon. Isn't carbon black and it gets all over you when you touch it? I petted my friends lab, and not one black mark on my hand! Can anyone help me with this? And thanks again...

remember...reach for the 15s and you might at least get a 12 or 13!!!!

Congratulations on your scores. Great job on the DAT. Did you apply to any schools yet?
