i'm getting frustrated because i feel like i can't find one single source that will walk me through the whole process of applying. i hear everyone talking about their eras application, their cv, their caf, etc. etc. etc. and i can't help but feel like i'm missing something. am i writing my resume just to give out to my letter writers or does it get scanned in somehow to eras? what parts of eras do i have to fill out? i just have tons of questions and no complete source from which to get answers.

does anyone know of a website or book that takes you through, step by step, what you need to do to apply?

everything you have to do is on eras. the eras website has a general timeline on it that you can look at, plus once you sign in (im assuming you are a 4th year, if not, you can't sign in, of course), your own personal "page" has a checklist where it shows you what you have done and what you still have to do. the only thing outside eras that you have to do is ask attendings for letters of recommendation and have them sent to your school. everything else is on eras. just sign in, and mess around on it and you'll figure it all out, its all on there. your school will upload your transcripts, your letters of recommendation, and your picture. its all self explanatory once you spend some time clicking through all the tabs. i actually find eras a really easy program to work with. feel free to pm me with specific questions, i'd be glad to help you out.

what about Iserson's Getting Into A Residency? I look at that a lot.

But just to clarify, the only thing you need a separate CV for is to hand to people who you are meeting with for letters of recommendation, or if you apply for awards, or things like that. ERAS creates a CV for you during the process of filling it out, but you can make a more complete and nicer looking CV for other purposes.

It will probably help if you just go in and explore the ERAS program so that you know what is in the application. And hang out at these forums.

bethill, are you an AMG or IMG. If you are an AMG you need to contact you dean office for them to give you a token which is like a password to register in ERAS. IF you are an IMG, you need to contact the ECFMG for them to give you the token. I might be wrong on the IMG procedure. But i think is this way.

After the token, go to ERAS, google it, and its very easy from there on.
Again, if you are an AMG, you need to send your school a 2x2 passport type photo, request an official transcript from your school, and use the deans office mailing address as destination for your LOR.

If you are an IMG, i think it works the same but through the ECFMG.
