I currently have a 7 year old sheltie who has eaten Rachel Ray Nutrish most of her life. She used to have chronic ear infections. Her ears have been clear since switching her to Nutrish food. However, I am extremely concerned because I have read that Nutrish was on the FDA list of food brands that were implicated as the cause of DCM in some dogs. I have never actively tried to buy grain-free food. However, a good 90% of the dog foods I see are grain-free, therefore very hard to avoid. I am also concerned with by-products and meals....and have read that it is technically legal to use dead, diseased, ill or otherwise unfit for human consumption "meat" or even other euthanized dogs in dog food...??? I want to feed my dog a healthy diet and not risk her getting DCM. Preferably: human-grade, organic, and avoid canned food (BPA linings). I have literally googled "vet recommended dog food" but had little luck . What are quality brands that you guys recommend???

I would recommend talking to your vet in person about your concerns. They should be able to recommend a couple options for you based on what they know about your dog and her specific needs. You can also ask to consult with a veterinary nutritionist.
