A little advice for those who received acceptances today:

In my opinion, nothing is more tragic than someone who mistakes dental school acceptance for personal moral validation, when it is the dedication to serving others that truly validates the educational path of a healthcare professional.

If you want to tell your Facebook friends good news, it is that you will be attending [X dental school], not that you were accepted by dental school(s).

Except by being accepted to any school, you are able to become a dentist. I posted on facebook about it, but didn't say where. I simply said I was accepted because I'm excited to become a dentist, regardless of where my degree is from.

Yeah that's another good idea. But in my opinion, there is, among other things, a important moral distinction between "being (becoming) a dentist" and "doing dentistry."

Also, maybe I use Facebook differently than most people too. I tend to reserve it for more practical self-promotion, like letting people know where I am living.

I'm not posting anything on Facebook at all. Period. I didn't even post that I was applying to dental schools.

I only tell the people who ask me directly or message me/text me/e-mail me.

What matters is: I'M GOING TO BE A DENTIST, BABY! WOOHOO!!!

It still hasn't sunk in yet, friends.

That's totally fair too. Personally, I viewed it as a lot of people knew I have been working at becoming a dentist and i figured they'd be interested in knowing how my journey is going. I'm pretty sure 90% of the comments were from my friends parents anyways lol

I rarely use mass media but I do have a facebook though.

I feel blessed to to have the opportunity to attend dental school and pursue my goal of providing for the community. Its surreal really.

Eh I don't think you should tell people what to do. People have different beliefs and values. Let them do what makes them happy is what I say!
