Disclaimer: I'd most appreciate positive advice from people who have been in my situation / known someone in my situation who has gotten into medical school only. Thank you!

I'll be graduating next next summer with a low 3.32 overall GPA in electrical engineering with a minor in computer science from a public university in Illinois; there is an almost step-function nature to my GPA starting after my transferring from Duke and an increase in significant research/leadership achievements in academia and the corporate world.

My dream is to attend the University of Illinois in Urbana under the PhD/MD program; my sister also went to the school and got in with a 3.3, but she went to Harvard so, my situation is a little different.

How have successful applicants with similar stats gotten in? Is there any particular research they did, and if so, with whom? Any other words of encouragement and general advice would also be appreciated (thanks 🙂)

Hey,

I'm not too familiar with the MD/PhD application aspect. But my tips would be to do some more community service/outreach activities. Your GPA isn't a deal breaker if you do good on the MCAT, and can really win them over with your experiences.
