I'm planning to start studying for USMLE I this Monday (June 17th is test date) - but have no idea as to figure out how many days to allocate per subject; organ-based vs. topic based, and the likes. Do any of you have any suggestions? Thanks a bunch

Look up at the sticky.

Beat me to it.

Take all the study guides you can find. Put them all on one calerndar. Remove the things you don't like. Keep the things you do. Study accordingly.

Honestly, one piece of advice. If you have a long time to study, start with a list of things you need to study. Always take two things with you when you need to study for boards, one thing that is hard to study and is draining, one thing that is easy. Study the hardest thing first until you don't like it anymore, then study the easy thing. That way you can break up the boring stuff into more managable chunks while maximizing your studying time.

I spent two days each on gross anatomy/embryology, neuroanatomy, behavioral science, and pharmacology. Three days each on Microbiology and Biochemistry (because I managed to forget biochem almost entirely over two years). Four days each on Physiology and Pathology. I've arranged the subjects from lowest yield first to highest yield last so the important stuff is fresh on my mind. Overall, I have about a three week schedule.

Or you can search for downloadable schedules that will make you bust your butt for two straight months (yikes) 😉

i'm doing opposite of stinger.

low yield right before exam as it is cram and short term it kind of stuff.

high-yield a majority of stuff and early on since it is the foundation you should know it pretty well.

anatomy, biochem, embryo etc....if you study them first you won't remember the little details a month from now anyway.

i'm doing them right before the exam in cram fashion.

I agree. I am starting with Pharm, Path, Micro, and Physio, and hitting Anatomy, embryo, histo, biochem, beh. sci later. It all comes down to what works best for YOU.

That's exactly right. Best of luck to those taking the exam soon
