How to deal with a problem student in my class.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
And to the OP, I have never said to anyone that I don't care about social rules, professionalism, and other things. I absolutely do, judge me by my actions. Sometimes I "slack" a bit but I'm not perfect. I'm sorry, but you are infering things that have not been said because I would remember.

I would greatly appreciate it if a moderator would remove this thread. This isn't the place for it.

Hmm...we don't like a someone, so we ask the authorities to deal with them for some trivial infraction...isn't that what the OP wants to do?

BTW I find this thread interesting. It has reinforced the negative sentiments I have towards medical students. Well I should be careful, the majority of the people disagreed with the OP, but the fact that someone like the OP will be a doctor is quite frightening. OP, I hope you get a taste of the real world before you graduate...:xf:

wow. you definitely ARE *that guy.* nosy much? what business of yours is this guy's attendance or fashion choices? maybe he studies better on his own and prefers to do that instead of go to class. and what exactly do you consider dress code violations? at our school we're not allowed to wear shorts, sweatpants, flip flops--they basically are anti-comfort, but i don't care; i wear my flip flops anyway, unless i'm in anatomy lab! that hardly means i'm not trustworthy with patients or won't be a professional physician on the whole--just that i don't believe in following dumb rules with no basis. and that's nobody's business but mine. and i'm sure this peer of yours feels the same way.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Seriously people if you are gonna rip on this guy, then at least rip on him for what he said. All the guy wanted to know was what is responsibility was. He ended up accepting everyone's flaming and advice.

Interesting that the only person on this thread that has tried to be thoughtful and reasoned in his response is the OP. Pretty much everyone else's contribution to this thread has been "GAWD, I hope you never become a doctor!!!1!".

I kinda feel sorry for the OP, seems like he was conflicted about what the right thing to do was so he posed the question to the forum and instead of getting reasonable advice, he got flamed.

I don't know. Maybe it's just where I go to school but on SDN there seems to be a lot of vitrol and and hate directed toward "That Guy". You know the guy who does nothing but study and throws his classmates under the bus. In my experience, this guy doesn't exist. Rather, I think people project this stereotype on any unwitting guy who happens to ask a question in lecture, or who forgets to take off his white coat. I think thats what happened here. I think everyone heard "should I report him?" and, in a knee-jerk fashion, assumed that he is everything they hate.

The OP's "situation" isn't rocket science. I don't buy your line that the "OP was conflicted about the right thing to do."

Honestly, this thread reeks of insecurity and the need to feel important. There's no need to police other people and extrapolate how one student's tardiness & dress code "violations" mean he/she is unfit to practice medicine. Really??? Get a life people. 👎

I think at this point I feel the need to reply. This is unfortunate and I wanted to avoid this, but the cat's out of the bag.

First of all, Those isolated incidents were accidents. That day, I did not realize we had to be professionally dressed. It is not something I want to repeat. Seriously.

There are many jobs in medicine, not all of them clinical. I am certainly not irresponsible. Third year I'll be very on alert. I certainly have steady hands.

Probably the most sane post on this whole thread. Med students are crazy.

Congratulations OP, you're kind of a dick.

I've got 20 bucks on the OP and Studios being the same person.

I'm not the OP. I'm trying to defer at semester or just defer so that I at least have options open. Can we close this thread?
